Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Thousands were buried beneath rubble, their fate uncertain. The scale of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to grapple a future forever changed.

Worst Day Ever

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
